Genetically dominant resistance in mice to 3-methylcholanthrene-induced lymphoma.

Abstract: Mice of the RF/J strain are highly susceptible to induction of thymic lymphoma by skin painting with 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA), whereas mice of the 129/J and I/LnJ strains are resistant. Resistance was the dominant trait in F1 mice of crosses of RF with each resistant strain. Analysis of the lymphoma incidence in MCA-painted backcross populations indicated segregation of a single dominant gene for resistance in both crosses. None of these strains show inducibility of the aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase enzyme sy… Show more

“…Also, 129/J mice are more prone to the induction of autoimmune diseases such as experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis and show greater disease severity in diabetes models than B6 mice (30,31). In contrast, 129/J mice are relatively resistant to tumor induction by various carcinogenic agents and display a lower spontaneous overall tumor incidence (32)(33)(34). It has long been known that 129/J mice are not as capable as B6 mice in rejecting allogeneic and xenogeneic bone marrow transplants (35).…”

“…100,143 Similarly, 129X1/SvJ mice have reduced rejection of bone marrow grafts compared with C57BL/6, which has been demonstrated to be due to abnormal DAP12 signaling in 129X1/SvJ mice, 79,93 indicating an important role of NK cell activity in graft rejection in mice. Variations in KLRAs can result in specific resistance or susceptibilities to pathogens in various strains.…”
