Genome Sequence of Jumbo Phage vB_AbaM_ME3 of Acinetobacter baumanni

Abstract: Bacteriophage (phage) vB_AbaM_ME3 was previously isolated from wastewater effluent using the propagating host Acinetobacter baumannii DSM 30007. The full genome was sequenced, revealing it to be the largest Acinetobacter bacteriophage sequenced to date with a size of 234,900 bp and containing 326 open reading frames (ORFs).

“…A number of jumbo phages like CBB have been reported in recent years (Kim et al, 2013; Šimolūnas et al, 2013; Abbasifar et al, 2014; Drulis-Kawa et al, 2014; Buttimer et al, 2016; Yuan and Gao, 2016). Among them, phage CBB is significant given the identification of atypical whisker-like structures on its contractile tail, for which a function has not yet been assigned.…”

“…Phage vB_AbaM_ME3 was previously isolated from wastewater effluent using the propagating host Acinetobacter baumannii DSM 30007 (Kropinski et al, 2009 ). A. baumannii is a known nosocomial pathogen that causes pneumonia, urinary tract infection, and septicemia (Buttimer et al, 2016 ). Phage vB_AbaM_ME3 of A. baumannii has a size of 234,900 bp and 326 ORFs (Buttimer et al, 2016 ).…”

“…Most of them were linear double-stranded DNA, of which 23 were circular DNA. Their genome sizes ranged from 4 [ 64 ]to 234 kb [ 65 ]. The GC content and host content ranged from 30.76% [ 65 ] to 47.11% [ 46 ], and 3% [ 66 ] to 85% [ 34 ], respectively.…”
