Genome-wide association analysis identifies susceptibility loci for migraine without aura

Abstract: Migraine without aura is the most common form of migraine, characterized by recurrent disabling headache and associated autonomic symptoms. To identify common genetic variants for this migraine type, we analyzed genome-wide association data of 2,326 clinic-based German and Dutch patients and 4,580 population-matched controls. We selected SNPs from 12 loci with two or more SNPs with P-values < 1 × 10 −5 for follow-up in 2,508 patients and 2,652 controls. Two loci, i.e. 1q22 (MEF2D) and 3p24 (near TGFBR2) replic… Show more

“…The utility of GWAS has been demonstrated in a variety of plants and crops, including Arabidopsis thaliana (Atwell et al, 2010;Filiault and Maloof, 2012;Meijón et al, 2014), rice (Oryza sativa; Zhao et al, 2011), wheat (Triticum aestivum; Liu et al, 2015), and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum; Lin et al, 2014), and in various animal species, such as fruit flies (Mackay et al, 2012), mice (Kirby et al, 2010), and humans (Scott et al, 2007;Chasman et al, 2011;Freilinger et al, 2012). These studies are accompanied by a steady improvement in the level of detail of the genotypic information.…”

“…Freilinger et al [117] tried to find SNP associated with MWOA and conducted a GWAS that included 2,326 patients with MWOA and 4,580 controls from the population of Germany and the Netherlands [117]. The association was verified additionally in four independent repeated European samples that included 2,508 patients with MWOA and 2,652 controls.…”
