“…At the beginning of the previous work, the CCO genes were divided into five categories, which included CCD1, CCD4, CCD7, CCD8, and NCED [6,7]. Recently, another category of CCO genes called CCD-like (CCDL) was found in grape (Vitis vinifera), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), apple (Malus × domestica) and Sugar cane (Saccharum) [8][9][10][11]. In general, different categories of CCO genes exhibit different roles.…”

“…Cis -acting elements of the 2K sequence upstream of the CDS of all Cucurbitaceae CCDs were explored using the PlantCARE website. The CCD gene family mainly encodes hormones and proteins implicated in the stress response [ 32 ], and thus eight related elements were selected for analysis in the present study ( Figure 4 ). The elements included the salicylic acid-responsive element, the abscisic acid-responsive element, the gibberellin-responsive element, the MeJA-responsive element, the defense and stress-responsive element, the drought-induced responsive element, the auxin-responsive element, and the low-temperature responsive element.…”

“…The numbers of CCD genes in different species vary greatly, which could be related to the genome ploidy, gene replication and species evolution. There were nine CCD gene members in D. officinale and Arabidopsis ( Tan et al, 2003 ), respectively, which were less than the CCD members in other species, such as rice ( Tan et al, 2003 ), tobacco ( Zhou et al, 2019 ), cotton ( Zhang et al, 2021 ), Saccharum ( Su et al, 2021 ). In dicotyledonous plants Arabidopsis and cotton, there were more NCED members than those of the CCD type, suggesting the expansion of NCED and their important roles.…”
