Genome-wide identification of the MIOX gene family and their expression profile in cotton development and response to abiotic stress

Abstract: The enzyme myo-inositol oxygenase (MIOX) catalyzes the myo-inositol into glucuronic acid. In this study, 6 MIOX genes were identified from all of the three diploid cotton species (Gossypium arboretum, Gossypium herbaceum and Gossypium raimondii) and Gossypioides kirkii, 12 MIOX genes were identified from two domesticated tetraploid cottons Gossypium hirsutum, Gossypium barbadense, and 11 MIOX genes were identified from three wild tetraploid cottons Gossypium tomentosum, Gossypium mustelinum and Gossypium darwi… Show more

“…Cotton is an important fiber and oil crop in the world, but its development is always threatened by abiotic stresses, including extreme temperature, drought and salt ( Zhang et al, 2018 ; Li et al, 2021 ). These stresses will become more severe in the future, which will lead to lower crop yields and quality ( Onaga & Wydra, 2016 ).…”

“…These species are divided into groups of nearly related species arranged “A-G″ and “K” for diploids and “AD” for tetraploids, and they could provide biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. ( Wendel and Grover, 2015 ; Li et al, 2021 ). In this study, we used G. arboreum and G. raimondii from the diploid species category of A and D genomes and G. barbadense and G. hirsutum , belonging to the AD-genome tetraploid category ( Zhang et al, 2008 ).…”

“…Generally, the ratio of Ka/Ks being > 1 represents rapid evolution of a protein gene and a positive selection and changes in protein’s functions. In contrast, < 1 indicates a negative selection and selectively purified among genes [ 42 , 43 ]. In the present study, the Ka/Ks ratios of the genes atp 6, cox 3, nad 3, nad 4 and nad 6 ranged from 1.07 to 1.72 (Fig.…”
