“…Since previous studies have shown that the NRT2 family has a role in responding to drought and waterlogging stresses, this same functionality should also be investigated for cotton. Thorough study of the gray leaf spot and bacterial wilt RNA-seq data confirmed that the expression of the NRT1/PTR subfamily members was down-regulated after pathogen attack ( Xia et al., 2022 ). Reports are also available which imply that NRT2 family proteins play a role in plant response to light, which ultimately increases photosynthesis.…”

“…In order to analyze expression patterns of known and previously unannotated SSPs during immune response, we re-analyzed four published transcriptomes of phylogenetically distant species: the moss Physcomitrium patens (Physcomitrella), Zea mays , Brassica napus , and Solanum tuberosum (Kwenda et al, 2016; Reboledo et al, 2021; D. Wang et al, 2022; Xia et al, 2023; Figure 1A). These transcriptomes were selected based on the following criteria: 1) the plants were infected with either necrotrophic or hemibiotrophic pathogens; 2) the quality of raw data (see Methods); and 3) RNA-seq analysis was performed at different time points after pathogen inoculation.…”
