Geochemistry of Basaltic Merbabu Volcanic Rocks, Central Java, Indonesia

Abstract: The studied area is located along the hiking track of Kajor-Selo, the south flank of Merbabu Volcano, Central Java, Indonesia. Olivine basalt and augite-rich basalt compose the volcanic rocks. A geochemical study recognizes these basalts which tend to originate from the product of tholeiitic magma, in terms of transitional enriched mantle source. It is interpreted to have been formed as primary magma that mixed later with higher degrees of partial melting with a mantle wedge. Both fluid and melt were derived f… Show more

“…Jeding Volcanics consist of basaltic andesite lava, porphyritic and intergranular with pilotaxitic texture. According to Mulyaningsih et al (2020) pyroxene-rich basalt is called basaltic andesite. Phenocryst (52 -54%) of 0.2 -1.2 mm -sized comprises plagioclase, pyroxene, and opaque…”

“…As Quaternary volcanism of post-collisional potassic and ultrapotassic series, The Golcuk Volcano (Isparta, Turkey) consists of an asthenospheric source than a lithospheric source that originates from lamprophyre and tephrite (Platevoet et al, 2014). The recorded data shows ultrapotassic foid-rich volcanic materials of the Muria-Peninsula (Marin et al, 2019), which differ from the plagioclase and clinopyroxene-rich volcanic materials that resulted from the central arc of Sunda, such as the volcanoes of Merapi, Merbabu, Sumbing, and Sindoro in the Central Java (Kirchenbaur et al, 2022, Mulyaningsih and Shaban, 2020, Gertisser and Keller, 2003, and Edwards, 1990. As proposed by Leterrier et al (1990) Muria has two types of volcanic materials, i.e the HKseries Muria and the K-series Muria.…”
