“…We sampled 107 individuals of A. taciturnus from 67 localities (GenBank accession numbers –; Fig. and Table S1) comprising both subspecies, and excluded A. t. axillaris , which we consider a separate species following Buainain et al (). We were not able to sample A. franciscanus , the closest extant relative of the A. taciturnus complex (Klicka et al ).…”

“…A. taciturnus was considered to be polytypic, with three currently recognized subspecies: A. t. axillaris , occurring along the base of the Andes in Colombia and Venezuela; A. t. nigrirostris , recorded in Peru and Bolivia along the eastern slope of the Andes; and A. t. taciturnus , extending from southeastern Colombia, east to southern Venezuela and the Guianas, south through Amazonia to central Brazil and northeastern Bolivia, and along the Atlantic coast of Brazil south to Espírito Santo (Jaramillo & de Juana ). However, Buainain et al () have shown that A. t. axillaris can be phenotypically diagnosed from the remaining subspecies and argued that it should be recognized as a distinct species. In contrast, A. t. taciturnus and A. t. nigrirostris are polymorphic, with both taxa sharing character states varying from having a complete pectoral band to its absence.…”

“…O tico-tico-de-bico-preto, A. taciturnus (Hermann, 1783), possui três subespécies atualmente reconhecidas: A. taciturnus taciturnus, A. taciturnus nigrirostris e A. taciturnus axillaris (Buainain, 2017).
