Geographical and biological analysis of the water quality of Bovan Lake, Serbia

Abstract: In this work we performed a complex geographical analysis of the Bovan Lake basin, Serbia, as well as an analysis of the physical, chemical and biological parameters of water reservoir during a one-year period. The basic sanitary characteristics and physical, chemical and biological parameters, necessary for understanding locality conditions, were studied, and the saprobity index, class of quality, index O/H, degree of saprobity, degree of trophicity and category based on the phosphatase acti… Show more

“…Several surveys that investigated the physico-chemical parameters, phytoplankton community structure, and microbiological quality of Bovan Lake water have been con-ducted so far [18,[48][49][50]. However, the obtained data are difficult to compare and interpret, since the methodology employed and the choice of sampling locations were inconsistent.…”

“…Lake Bovan, one of the 29 reservoirs mentioned above, is an artificial accumulation formed between 1978 and 1984 following the dam's construction in the middle flow of the river Sokobanjska Moravica in Serbia. The primary aim of the lake building was the regulation of the Morava River basin and protection of the Djerdap I reservoir [18]. The Bovan accumulation arrests aqueous deposit sediment and is an irrigation and electricity source.…”

“…Various aspects of their impact were analyzed in the works of geographers, hydrologists, engineers, geologists, biologists in the world (Troll, 1966;Vogt, 1978;Šiklomanov, 1979;Voropaev and Vendrov, 1979;Mitchell, 1979; Avakjan, Saltanki and Šarapov, 1987; Forman & Gordon, 1987;Simmons, 1989;Turner, 1989, etc. ), as well as in our country (Gavriloviü, 1988;Šabiü, and Vujadinoviü, 1999;Šabiü and Živkoviü, 2002;Zlatkoviü et al, 2010;Pecelj et al, 2010;Milinþiü and Videnoviü, 2009;Milinþiü, 2005;Milinþiü & Djordjeviü, 2011, etc.). The unpredictability of the impact of hydraulic structures on geospace is the result of a number of modi¿ ers, which are subject to dynamic, spatial, temporal, qualitative and quantitative changes.…”
