Geologic position, age, and petrogenesis of plagiogranites in northern Rudny Altai

Abstract: The geologic position, age, petrologic composition, and petrogenesis of mesoabyssal plagiogranites in northern Rudny Altai, dated earlier at the Early–Middle Devonian, are considered. The Middle Carboniferous (322–318 Ma) age of granitoids has been substantiated by isotope-geochronological data (U–Pb zircon dating and Ar–Ar amphibole and biotite dating). Geologic-structural studies showed that the intrusion of granitoids took place at the time when compression was changed by sinistral faulting. This led to the… Show more

“…The Char ophiolitic mélange in the Irtysh–Zaysan suture zone was locally unconformably overlain by the Serpukhovian conglomerate (Kuibida et al, and references therein), which indicates the onset of a post‐collisional setting. The ~323–322 Ma high‐Al tonalite and plagiogranite from the Irtysh–Zaysan suture zone and Altai arc were explained as the collision‐related granitoids (Kuibida et al, , ), which are slightly older than ~319 Ma Keluke K‐feldspar granite. Importantly, the studied K‐feldspar granite from the Zharma–Saur arc is nearly coeval with the plutons crosscutting the Irtysh–Zaysan suture zone (Figure , ~320 Ma, Glorie et al, ) and Altai arc (Figure , ~318 Ma, Yuan et al, ), and together they represent the oldest stitching plutons invaded rocks of above terrane units.…”

“…Those observations allowed them to assume the presence of pre-Late Devonian plagiogranites in Rudny Altai, rocks of which have been ascribed to the Early Devonian Aley sky complex of uncertain volume [2,11]. The first attempts at isotopic dating of those "ancient" granites [14].…”
