“…In this paper, we test the idea of late collisional, north-directed "wrong-way" subduction of continental Molli (2008) and Molli et al (2010) (northern Apennines), Schmid et al (2004Schmid et al ( , 2008) (Alps, Carpathians, Pannonian Basin, Dinarides), Burchfiel et al (2008) and Burchfiel and Nakov (2014) (Forebalkan Orogen). Slab contours from Lippitsch et al (2003) lithosphere beneath the Eastern Alps.…”

“…The conceptual Scheme reported on the Map Legend defines the subdivision criteria used for the classification of Piemonte geologic units, consisting of several hierarchy levels corresponding to the main palaeogeographic domains and different-order lithotectonic units (subdomains). The adopted subdivisions can be compared, although partially different, with previously used classification schemes, for instance the classical subdivision of the northwestern Alps into three main structural domains (see Beltrando et al, 2010;Dal Piaz et al, 2003;Molli et al, 2010;Pfiffner et al, 1997;Schmid, Fugenshuh, Kissling, & Schuster, 2004 for a review) (see the 'Tectonic sketch Map' in the Main Map):…”

“…All the studied successions underwent at least three deformation events recorded at the regional scale: a first event with S-and SW-ward brittle -ductile thrusting and superposed folding, a second event with NEvergent folding, and a third event with southward brittle thrusting and flexural folding (Brizio et al, 1983;Piana et al, 2009). The overall regional kinematic was displayed, at least for the two last deformational stages, in a transpressional regime with important strain partitioning of contractional vs. strike-slip-related structural associations (d 'Atri et al, submitted;Molli et al, 2010;Piana et al, 2009), as evidenced by the occurrence of the Limone-Viozene Zone (LiVZ), a post-Oligocene NW -SE Alpine transcurrent shear zone extending for several kilometres from Tanaro valley to the eastern margin of the study area) and of the E-W strike-slip shear zone system generally known as Stura Fault (Ricou & Siddans, 1986) and here referred to as the Demonte -Aisone shear zone (DAZ).…”
