Abstract. Model security for collaborative product development in a networked environment (or called networked manufacturing, grid manufacturing, and cloud manufacturing) is an important and also challenging research issue. An encryption based partial sharing approach for CAD models has been developed and presented in this paper. First, a random invertible decimal matrix to support the encryption approach is proposed, with which parts of a CAD model can be selected flexibly by the model owner for encrypting by different keys; Second, in order to guarantee the security, a dual-key mode and a key based authorization mechanism are proposed. Based on the model, different levels of security are achieved based on different key spaces, and the key based authorization mechanism is used for the model owner to control the partial access of the CAD model flexibly.

This article presents a new automated modelling system to aid in collaborative designing with heterogeneous computer-aided design (CAD) agents. It is a multi-user based modelling process but is less time consuming. The article presents an effective data transmission and transformation technique to ease the mode of information sharing. The complete assembling system has been considered as a discrete event system with an automated coordinator. The automated coordinator has all the logical inputs to make the decisions. Our idea focuses on application of automata theory to the coordination of heterogeneous CAD systems. The proposed methodology has been applied to an illustrated example taken from literature for a better understanding of the model.

This paper proposes a Macro SemanticCommands based approach to support synchronized collaborative design upon heterogeneous CAD systems. By analyzing the modeling commands and macro files of several commercial CAD systems, the definitions of Macro Command Group (MCG) and Macro Semantic Command (MSC) are given and a set of MSCs are developed. In this approach, the MCGs corresponding to the modeling operations of each CAD systems are exchanged by MSC in the form of XML to real-time transfer parametric information including design intent between heterogeneous CAD systems. The preliminary test results show the proposed approach is promising.
