Geotechnical Analysis and 3D Fem Modeling of Ville San Pietro (Italy)

Abstract: The paper describes the three-dimensional numerical model of Ville San Pietro, an Italian village subject to slope movements causing damage. The church (dating back to 1776), which is the most significant building of the area, is modelled too. The information from geotechnical and geophysical surveys on field are used to define the model geometry and the soil properties. A finite element code is adopted to simulate the slope behavior in occurrence of water table fluctuations, detected by piezometers, and to ev… Show more

“…In most cases, only a limited amount of data is available. For that reason, the stratigraphy must be simplified during the modeling process [10]. Indeed, it is common to overlook relatively thin or discontinuous layers, which can be corrected with proper parameter calibration based on monitoring data or field observation [11].…”

“…Allowing the structure to slide or uplift has not changed on measured acceleration or displacement whereas the base shear and overturning moments reduced 74%. Kavitha et al [29]. investigated the dynamic behavior of a pile embedded in various types of soil using PLAXIS 3D finite element software.…”
