Giant cell tumor of the femoral neck: case report

Abstract: The authors present the case of a patient with a giant cell tumor of the left femoral neck, with adjacent progressive invasion of bone tissue. Initial treatment was done with local curettage and autologous bone graft from fibula, electrocauterization and filling with methyl methacrylate. A local tumoral relapse was present after one year; therefore a new surgical procedure was necessary, with proximal femoral wide resection and unconventional endoprosthesis fixation. The article discusses the clinical aspects … Show more

“…Because the mesenchymal stem cell can differentiate into a wide rank of overlap tumors and the diagnosis was difficult, authors were not unified in classification. For the borderline tumor, the authors considered it as an "aggressive benign bone tumor" [16] or "aggressive benign neoplasm" [3]. Therefore, the role of immunohistochemistry was critical.…”

“…On X-ray, TPs at the PF (trochanter-neck-head), necktrochanter, trochanters, and neck were 21 (48%), 16 Biopsy was made once for 24 patients, twice for 25 patients, and three times for one patient. They were made on 44 (88%) patients before treatment.…”

“…Paulo silva et al [8] a similar case of proximal femur GCT where they used endoprosthesis for the proximal femur. In our case we did an extended curettage of the lesion, proximal femur nailing and packing of remaining hollow space with bone graft from iliac crest and we achieved good results.…”
