Giant juvenile fibroadenoma

Abstract: Juvenile fibroadenoma is a common cause of breast masses seen in adolescents and young women. Giant juvenile fibroadenomas are usually single and unilateral. The etiology is thought to be due to increased levels of estrogen during adolescence, although it is not yet fully understood. Treatment options range from simple excision to subcutaneous mastectomy according to the size of the lesion. This article aimed to present a case that was diagnosed with "giant juvenile fibroadenoma".

“…5 GJF should especially be distinguished from phyllodes tumor which is an uncommon fibroepithelial tumor of the breast which is more likely to occur in women over 35 years. [3][4][5]8 Phyllodes tumors may be separated from GJF with their increased mitotic activity in histological examination. They can be rarely malignant and the surgical choice should be excision with preservation of breast.…”

“…5 Especialmente, debe distinguirse entre el FGJ y el tumor filoide, que es un tumor fibroepitelial poco frecuente de la mama más probable en las mujeres mayores de 35 años. [3][4][5]8 Los tumores filoides se diferencian del FGJ debido a su elevada actividad mitótica en el examen histológico. Raramente son tumores malignos y la opción quirúrgica debe ser la excisión con conservación de la mama.…”

“…Based on the classification, there are three types of FAM division: [23] common fibroadenoma, giant fibroadenoma, and juvenile fibroadenoma. In addition, there is a classification of FAM based on the development of histological patterns, divided into Intracanalicular Fibroadenoma and Pericanalicular Fibroadenoma [24,25,26,27,28]. The causes of FAM are still not known with certainty.…”
