“…Our findings suggest that BrACs consistent with those of a social drinking episode for non-problem drinkers did not compromise psychomotor, set-shifting, or working memory abilities, as measured by three tasks, in this cohort. Null findings for the current study are in accord with previous acute alcohol investigations that assess a variety of cognitive functions (Dougherty et al, 2008;Leitz et al, 2009), including set-shifting (Gilbertson et al, 2009) and working memory (Tzambazis & Stough, 2000). Our results further suggest that low-dose alcohol might aid simple psychomotor ability.…”

“…For example, in a clinical group with medial temporal sclerosis, Adda et al (2008) found that PM performance was impaired and that among those with left hemisphere lesions the degree of impairment was correlated with that in delayed (7 day) verbal recall on the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Task (RAVLT). Leitz et al (2009) found that PM performance was significantly correlated with episodic memory recall following acute administration of alcohol. In another recent study utilising magnetoencephalography, Martin et al (2007) found that that the hippocampal region was activated longer during both retrospective and prospective memory tasks relative to a control condition.…”

“…The extent of the methamphetamine-related effect in PM was found to covary substantially with the degree of impairment on the Hayling task . In other research utilising the virtual week, Leitz et al (2009) demonstrated that performance was impaired following the acute administration of alcohol. However, in a subsequent study, the deficit was eliminated when individuals were instructed simulate the required actions at the time of encoding (by imaging the full sensory aspects of the context in which the action was to be completed; Paraskevaides et al, 2010).…”

“…Following this line of research, Addis, Wong, and Schacter (2008) have noted that there seems to be considerable overlap between PM and future thinking, and have drawn particular attention to the close relation between the processes involved in future thinking and those in the implementation of intentions. The authors point out that the implementation of an intention involves associating the intention with a specific future context, which closely resembles the episodic simulation involved in future thinking (Leitz, Morgan, Bisby, Rendell, & Curran, 2009;Schacter, Addis, & Buckner, 2008).…”

“…Similarly, Neroni, Gamboz, and Brandimonte (2014) reported positive effects of future thinking on PM in a student sample. Leitz et al (2009) and Paraskevaides et al (2010) both tested whether the provision of future thinking instructions would reduce the PM deficits associated with acute alcohol consumption in young adults. Results indicated that future thinking did significantly improve PM performance compared to a control condition.…”
