Global transcriptomic response ofAnoxybacillussp. SK 3-4 to aluminum exposure

Abstract: Anoxybacillus sp. SK 3-4 is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium and a member of family Bacillaceae. We had previously reported that the strain is an aluminum resistant thermophilic bacterium. This is the first report to provide a detailed analysis of the global transcriptional response of Anoxybacillus when the cells were exposed to 600 mg L of aluminum. The transcriptome was sequenced using Illumina MiSeq sequencer. Total of 708 genes were differentially expressed (fold change >2.00) with 316 genes were up-… Show more

“…We also observed a significant increase in the relative abundances of genes associated with dehydrogenase with elevated Hg. These findings are consistent with those of previous studies showing upregulation of dehydrogenase activities exposed to metals [ 39 ]. In addition, we identified some genes that are relevant to Hg transport (i.e., iron transport system) and methylation processes (i.e., CoA synthetase) [ 40 ].…”

“…Finally, there were many differently expressed mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in E. coli 381 that represented the resistance and virulence potential of the strain 79 . For example, up-regulated phage-shock proteins are induced by stress conditions to transport metal ions 89 , preserve natural membrane integrity in extracytoplasmic stress 89 , 90 , bolster intramacrophage survival 91 , tolerate heat and ethanol stress 92 , bear acid-base stress 93 , and resist membrane-targeting antibiotics 93 . In addition, transposase-encoding DEGs increased the resistance and virulence of MDR E. coli 381 because E. coli transposases are involved in reshaping the genome by cutting and pasting the genes, resulting in mutations, disrupting the expression of genes, and participating in horizontal gene transfer 94 , 95 .…”

“…By using comparative metabolomics [14] and comparative proteomics [15] approaches, the cadmium tolerance mechanism was investigated in different Lactobacillus plantarum strains. In addition to cadmium, stresses from other heavy metals have also been studied in various organisms using multi-omics technologies [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] , [20] .…”
