Glycemic control and its influencing factors in type 2 diabetes patients in Anhui, China

Abstract: ObjectiveTo investigate the status of glycemic control and analyze its influencing factors in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Anhui, China.Methods1,715 T2D patients aged 18–75 years old were selected from 4 counties or districts in Anhui Province in 2018, using a convenience sampling method. “…In our study, another major important finding is that heavy alcohol drinking was in negative association with the glycemia level among type 2 diabetes patients, suggesting that heavy drinking may affect glycemic management for people with diabetes. This was consistent with the finding reported among type 2 diabetes patients in Anhui province of China 9 .…”

“…To reduce the burden caused by such a large number of people with diabetes, it is necessary and imperative to help people with diabetes control their glycemia, as a bad blood glucose level is the most important factor for diabetic angiopathy and complications 3 , 4 , 5 . In addition to clinical treatment, lifestyles and behavior (e.g., alcohol drinking) modification are also important for patients with type 2 diabetes to manage their glycemia 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 .…”

“…Relationships between glycemic control described in the literature are not entirely consistent. Similarly to the present study, Xing et al (2022) reported that the prevalence of good glycemic control was lower in men than in women [20]. In turn, the results of Duarte et al (2019) showed that women with T2D had poorer glycemic control than men [21].…”

“…As a common chronic disease with increasing prevalence, prevention and regular treatment of T2DM is important to prevent complications, one of which is by performing glycemic control. However, differences in geographical location, socioeconomic conditions, dietary habits, and health services lead to different levels of glycemic control [17]. Factors that influence the good and bad control of diabetes are BMI, which is influenced by a person's lifestyle, such as diet, physical activity, and adherence to medication Putri, Nugroho, & Adi [8].…”
