Background: Schizophrenia deeply affects both the lives of patients and their families. The fact that schizophrenic patients in Turkey generally maintain their lives with their families may lead to serious problems for families and parents. Aims: The main purposes of this research are to determine the physical, social, cognitive, emotional and spiritual lives of parents of children with schizophrenia with the main concepts of the empowerment approach. Method: The research was carried out with the qualitative research method. In-depth interviews were conducted with 30 parents in total, that is, 15 mothers and 15 fathers, through semi-structured interview form. Maxqda 2018 was used for the analysis of the research data. Results: According to the research result, it is determined that the parents have problems due to physical, social, cognitive, emotional and spiritual disease process; gender perspective and roles; domestic functionality; social environment, social perception; and issues related to services. Conclusion: Considering the parents who are affected by the disease process which is a particularly quite difficult process and who affect the process, to recognize the situations that lead them to gain strength and that make them powerless in personal, interpersonal and political aspects, to activate the existing resources and to create new resources are highly important factors for them to cope with the disease process effectively.

AbstractThis article examines human nature and behavior through the lens of Al-Ghazzâlî's concept of the heart (AR: qalb). The root of the Arabic word for heart means "turn, change." A great thinker of Islamic civilization, Ghazzâlî held the heart as the spiritual center of man and that whatever occurs inside it manifests itself in the outside world. Therefore, a human being attempting to know himself must first observe the emotions and minute details in the inclinations of their heart. Ghazzâlî's "heart" experiences continual change consequent to myriad forces from the physical (AR: jismânî) and the spiritual (AR: rûḥânî) worlds. Therefore, it is highly difficult to observe and understand this changeable spiritual organ. Ghazzâlî's heart is the center of sentience and is home to a range of base instincts and inclinations, which Ghazzâlî terms the attributes of the heart, dividing them into four fundamental categories: animalistic/lust, 2 predation/anger, 3 divine, 4 and satanic 5 attributes. Ghazzâlî states that since these powers affect and change human nature and direct behavior, they can lead to degeneration.6 Likewise, they can potentially provide an opportunity for human development and safeguard one's progeny when they are used as directed by the faculty of reason (AR: ͑ aql). Gazzali'ye göre kalp, insan maneviyatının merkezi terimidir ve içerisinde her ne hâsıl olursa bunu dışarıya sızdırmaktadır. Bu sebeple kendini anlamaya ve tanımaya çalışan insan, önce kalbi hisleri ve yönelimlerindeki incelikleri dikkatlice gözlemlemelidir. The Effect of Reminiscence Therapy With Internet-Based Videos on Cognitive Status and Apathy of Older People With Mild Dementia

This study was carried out to assess the effects of reminiscence therapy that was supported with internet-based videos on the cognitive condition and apathy levels of older people with mild dementia living in nursing homes. This randomized controlled experimental study was conducted between May 15, 2016, and August 25, 2016, in two nursing homes in Adana, Turkey. A total of 32 people participated in this study, 16 individuals were in the intervention group and 16 individuals were in the control group. The data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Standardized Mini-Mental State Examination (SMMSE) test, and the Apathy Rating Scale (ARS) Selfassessment Form. The individuals in the intervention group received group reminiscence therapy involving internet-based videos for 60 minutes once a week for 3 months. During this period, 25 to 30 minutes of unstructured interviews were carried out with individuals in the control group. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Student t test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon signed rank test. In this study, a significant difference was found between experimental and control groups' posttest mean scores on the SMMSE test and ARS (P < .01). The experimental group's SMMSE test and ARS posttest mean scores were higher than those of the control group (P < .01). This study found that group reminiscence therapy using internet-based videos improved the cognitive functions and apathy levels of older people with mild dementia of the Alzheimer type. It is recommended that group reminiscence therapy studies with Internet-based videos be conducted in care institutions that are responsible for managing older people with mild dementia of the Alzheimer type.
