Grafting alkylamine in UiO-66 by charge-assisted coordination bonds for carbon dioxide capture from high-humidity flue gas

Abstract: A new post-synthetic modification method was performed to graft alkylamine in a metal–organic framework, giving exceptional stability and performance for carbon dioxide capture from high-humidity flue gas.

“…In addition, the solid‐state 13 C NMR of terephthalic acid as solid has been also measured, and the result is presented in the Supporting Information as Figure SI8. Peaks at 130, 132 and 173 ppm in terephthalic acid were assigned to carbons in the aromatic ring and the carbonyl groups, respectively . Analogous peaks can be observed from pristine UiO66 Zr at 127, 136 and 169 ppm in accordance with the literature (Figure ) .…”

“…An alternative strategy was employed for the installation of ethanolamine onto the Zr 6 clusters of UiO‐66, by exposing dehydrated UiO‐66 (UiO‐66 heated at 300 °C for 1 hour under an N 2 atmosphere) to an anhydrous toluene solution containing ethanolamine (ea) . Similar to UiO‐66‐ox, UiO‐66‐ea [Zr 6 O 4 (OH) 2 (ea) 2 (bdc) 6 ] n contains pendant amino moieties (ethanolamine is grafted onto Zr 6 clusters at the triangular windows formed between three Zr IV ions, partially replacing bridging µ 3 ‐OH moieties) which were expected to improve the material's CO 2 adsorption capacity.…”

“…[152,153,214] In MOFs containing open metal sites, guest molecules are often bound to these and variation in the 2 H, 13 C or 17 O anisotropic NMR parameters with temperature can be used to determine the type and rate of restricted motion occurring, giving information on the binding strength and mode. [215][216][217][218][219] One of the systems studied in most detail to date is CO 2 adsorbed in Mg-CPO-27 (Mg 2 (dobdc), dobdc = 2,5-dioxobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate). Kong et al [215] used the CSA of 13 CO 2 to investigate this binding, showing that the CO 2 molecule rotated about the Mg-O bond axis at an angle, θ, which varied from 69° at 210 K to 56° at 375 K, as shown in Figure 21(b).…”
