Graphene/cardanol modified phenolic resin for the development of carbon fiber paper-based composites

Abstract: Carbon fiber paper-based composites (GCPC) were prepared by impregnating carbon fiber papers in a solution of graphene and cardanol modified phenolic resin (GCP). GCP was characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and the electrical conductivity, mechanical properties, pore distribution, and porosity of GCPC were investigated by a four-probe tester, universal testing machine, microtopography, and porous material analyzer, respectively. The results show that the electrical properties and mechanical st… Show more

“…Cardanol is used as sustainable raw material source for the production of polymer based industrial products such as laminating resins, polyurethanes based polymers [17], epoxy resins [18,19], phenolic resins [20], friction linings, surfactants, emulsifiers, paints, varnishes and benzoxazine resins. The development of new polymers, especially those based on renewable raw materials, are warranted to replace petroleum feed stocks.…”

“…Phosphate-containing cardanol-modified phenolic resin, prepared by Caiying Bo et al, can overcome the brittleness of the foam, improve its flame retardancy, and attain a high thermal stability and good mechanical properties [18]. In addition, the phenolic resin may be physically modified [19,20]; that is, the modifier is blended with the phenolic resin and then foamed as a matrix resin. Yufeng Ma et al added an environmentally friendly, halogen-free flame retardant, a synergist, and other additives to the phenolic resin and foam, and the obtained modified foam had excellent flame retardancy [21].…”

“…Major China's phenolic resin production enterprises and production capacity (unit: 104 ton)This À1 at 0.1 A g À1 , a good specic capacity of 72.9%, and excellent cycle stability in the range 0.1-5 A g À1 (aer 5000 cycles, the specic capacitance was decreased to only 3.4%).The prepared porous carbon composite exhibits improved graphitization and enhanced electrical conductivity, opening new ways to design and synthesize 3D graphene/phenolic resin porous carbon composites for various applications such as supercapacitors, catalysts, and fuel cells. Mingzhu S. et al53 prepared carbon ber paper-based composite (GCPC) by impregnating carbon ber in graphene and carbophenol-modied phenolic resin solution (GCP). GCP was characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and the electrical conductivity, mechanical properties, pore distribution, and porosity of GCPC were investigated by a fourprobe tester, universal testing machine, microtopography, and porous material analyzer, respectively.…”
