Graphene Oxide Aerosol Deposition and its Influence on Cancer Cells. Preliminary Results

Abstract: This paper presents the results of the interaction of graphene oxide (GO) on MDA-MB-231 and SW-954 cancer cell lines. The tests were carried out in two variants. In the first one, GO was sprayed on a Petri dish and then, the cancer cell lines were cultured. In the second variant, the cells were covered with an aerosol containing GO. In both variants, cancer cell lines were incubated and tested every 24, 48, and 72 h. After each time period, cell viability and surface morphology were measured. The tests after 7… Show more

“…Modified Hummers method [ 33 , 34 ] was utilized in order to synthesize graphene oxide (GO) flakes. Sixty grams of graphite flakes (125–150 μm in diameter) purchased from Asbury Carbons (USA) were placed in a beaker filled with solution of 34 g of potassium nitrate (101.10 g/mol KnO 3 -pure, Chempur, Poland) in 4 L of sulfuric acid (95% H 2 SO 4 -pure, Chempur, Poland).…”

“…Elemental analysis was utilized along with the experimental protocol presented in our previous work [ 34 ]. For that purpose, we implemented a setup composed of three combustion analyzers: CHN628 (working temperature of 950 °C), CHN628S (working temperature of 1350 °C) and OH836 (working temperature of 950 °C)—all purchased from Leco.…”

“…The aqueous dispersion of GO was prepared with flakes obtained from graphite by a modified Hummers method. Further experimental details are described in the literature [35][36][37]. The 2 mg/mL GO dispersion in deionized water (DI) (flake size 1-100 µm) was spin-coated at 2000 rpm for 30 s on 1.5 × 1.5 cm 2 substrates.…”

“…Then, the purification and exfoliation processes were performed. The concentration of graphene oxide water dispersion was 10 g/L [31,32]. The flake size was 3-10 µm and the graphene oxide was purchased from the Department of Chemical Synthesis and Flake Graphene, Łukasiewicz Research Network, Institute of Electronic Materials Technology, Warsaw, Poland.…”
