Gravity dual corrections to the heavy quark potential at finite-temperature

Abstract: We apply gauge/gravity duality to compute 1/N 2 c corrections to the heavy quark potentials of a quark-anti-quark pair (QQ) and of a quark-quark pair (QQ) immersed into the strongly coupled N = 4 SYM plasma. On the gravity side these corrections come from the exchanges of supergravity modes between two string worldsheets stretching from the UV boundary of AdS space to the black hole horizon in the bulk and smeared over S 5 . We find that the contributions to the QQ potential coming from the exchanges of all of… Show more

“…This implies that the region of applicability of the U-shaped string worldsheet decreases with the applied magnetic field and, thus, other string configurations must be taken into account when computing the string generating functional for sufficiently large LT [27]. This problem was investigated in the case of an isotropic N = 4 SYM plasma in [33] but the extension of these calculations to the anisotropic scenario studied here will be left as a subject of a future study. Nevertheless, for the values of LT in which the U-shaped configuration is dominant our results for the potential are trustworthy and we shall discuss them below.…”

“…While this simple procedure gives the correct expression for F reg Q (T ) [19,20] in this type of gravity duals, we note that other configurations for the string worldsheet besides the U-shaped one must be taken into account when LT > 1 [17,21]. In the following we will always consider the regularized expressions for the quantities discussed above and, thus, the superscript "reg" will be omitted from the formulas in the rest of the text.…”
