Greater increase in femoral offset with use of collum femoris-preserving stem than Tri-Lock stem in primary total hip arthroplasty

Abstract: Objective This study was performed to compare the clinical outcomes and performance of the collum femoris-preserving (CFP) stem (Waldemar Link GmbH & Co., Hamburg, Germany) and the Tri-Lock stem (DePuy Orthopaedics, Warsaw, IN, USA) in terms of femoral offset (FO) and leg length reconstruction. Methods Clinical and radiographic data of patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty with either a CFP stem or Tri-Lock stem from January 2016 to March 2017 were compared (65 and 57 patients, respectively). The H… Show more

“…The Tri-Lock stem (DePuy Synthes) is a short cementless prosthesis that is more suitable for patients with Dorr A and Dorr B proximal femoral medullary cavities. 28 We also found that patients with Dorr C femurs who underwent THA using the Tri-Lock stem prosthesis were more likely to have valgus alignment of the femoral stem.…”

“…However, they did not provide a quantitative measurement of the improvement on offset and LLD. Yao et al [ 49 ] revealed Tri-Lock stem restores the offset and LLD. But they did not provide the proportion of dual offset stems, including standard and high offset stems [ 49 ].…”

“…Yao et al [ 49 ] revealed Tri-Lock stem restores the offset and LLD. But they did not provide the proportion of dual offset stems, including standard and high offset stems [ 49 ]. A meta-analysis including 320 patients reported no significant differences in the FO and LLD after primary THA using short stem versus conventional stem [ 42 ].…”

“…(3) We evaluated the functional recovery of patients. Hip joint function recovery was evaluated according to Harris Hip Score (HHS) [ 12 ] from 4 aspects: function, pain, deformity, and activity. The total score is 100 points, and the score and corresponding evaluation are as follows: excellent: ≥90 points; good: 80–89 points; fair: 70–79 points; poor: <70 points.…”
