Today, the fashion industry faces challenges related to the sustainability problem due to its richness, heterogeneity, and globality. Taking into account the complexity of the fashion industry, this review of the literature analyzes the sustainability of fashion, beginning with the development of fibers and ending with the use of worn garments and considers the environmental, economic, and social sustainability aspects that must be evaluated throughout the life cycle of the product. The results of the literature review have shown that the integration of complex decisions into the business models of both manufacturing and marketing companies must be implemented to develop the sustainable fashion industry from a long-term perspective.

Tackling environmental impact requires a prompt response. The school is situated as the suitable space to encourage practices which promote citizen participation and a change of habits. The objective of this research is to analyze the social discourse of educational agents in order to identify the properties and characteristics of methodologies and educational resources which allow the development of meaningful learning oriented to sustainability. The qualitative methodological design is based on discourse analysis and applies Grounded Theory and structured techniques. Through a validated questionnaire, focus groups and semi-structured interviews were carried out with 53 agents of the educational community, including technicians and managers, trainers of trainers, teachers, and researchers from the Spanish educational field. By means of selective coding, co-occurrence analysis and the diagramming technique, 120 codes and 14 central categories were identified to provide guidelines on how to approach the methodological design and the selection of resources to develop an Environmental Education for Sustainability (ESE) at school. The results of the study reveal the importance of integrating active methodologies and contextualized resources that place the school at the epicenter of the social life of its immediate environment. La escuela se posiciona como el espacio idóneo para incentivar prácticas que impulsen la participación ciudadana y el cambio de hábitos. El objetivo de la investigación es analizar el discurso social de los agentes educativos para identificar las propiedades y las características de las metodologías y los recursos educativos que permitan desarrollar aprendizajes significativos orientados a sostenibilidad. El diseño metodológico cualitativo emplea el análisis de discurso aplicando la Teoría Fundamentada y técnicas estructuradas. Con un cuestionario validado, se efectúan focus group y entrevistas semiestructuradas a 53 agentes de la comunidad educativa, entre los que se encuentran técnicos y directivos, formadores de formadores, docentes e investigadores del ámbito educativo español. Por medio de la codificación selectiva, el análisis de co-ocurrencia y la técnica de la diagramación se identifican 120 códigos y 14 categorías centrales que orientan sobre cómo abordar el diseño metodológico y la selección de recursos para desarrollar una Educación Ambiental para la Sostenibilidad (ESE) en la Escuela. Los resultados del estudio evidencian la necesidad de integrar metodologías activas y recursos contextualizados que sitúen al centro en el epicentro de la vida social de su entorno cercano.

Recently, environmental issues have increased, whereas the Earth’s natural resources have deteriorated. These problems have forced people and companies to engage in environmental economics to achieve sustainability. However, several barriers have been identified in the implementation of environmental economics. This literature review provides insights into environmental economics and the sustainable development goals (SDGs), as well as the correlation between these two subjects in general. Thus, information about potential barriers to the implementation of environmental economics and possible solutions will be presented. A total of 75 documents were analyzed, including articles, books, official reports, or paperwork from governments and/or related institutions. This study is beneficial, especially for developing countries that are just preparing for, or in the process of conducting, the initial implementation of environmental economics, as well as achieving the sustainable development goals. Interdisciplinary topics that integrate human aspects with environmental economics are limited yet crucial for future research.
