Green Oil Production by Hydroprocessing

Abstract: Owning to GHG emissions control and prospective future of biofuel, it is encouraged to look for a shift to alternate industrial feedstock and green processes to produce these chemicals from renewable biomass resources. Besides hydrotreating bio-oil or crop oil to produce second generation bio-fuels, the bio-oil can be co-processed in various refining units and it also may lead to the production of green diesel, which is not only an opportunity but also a challenge for petroleum industry. Green oil or green die… Show more

“…These mainly deal with noble metal catalysts (Pd, Pt) [106][107][108][109], as well as with NiMo, NiW and CoMo sulphided catalysts. These papers have been very recently reviewed in eleven articles covering various aspects of the subject [38,[74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83].…”

“…In this context, two alternative upgrading processes are intensively studied; the cracking/hydrocracking and the selective deoxygenation (SDO) of natural triglycerides. The subject has been recently presented in excellent review and general articles [38,[74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83]. The cracking/hydrocracking ( Fig.…”

“…a drop-in fuel, a fully compatible fuel for blending with traditional hydrocarbon fuels). The main product from triglycerides hydrotreatment is often called "green" or "renewable" diesel, that consists of a mixture of paraffinic hydrocarbons in the range of diesel fuel [32]. HEFA process includes the production of HRJ (Hydrotreated Renewable Jet fuel), already used in commercial flights as drop-in fuel.…”

“…Hydrocracking occurs in the presence of hydrogen, while catalytic cracking occurs without the reaction of hydrogen gas. Catalytic hydroprocessing of vegetable oil in refinery installations is one of the important biofuel production processes (Chen, ). Chemically hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO) are mixtures of paraffinic hydrocarbons and are free of sulfur and aromatics (Aatola et al, ).…”
