Green Synthesis of Fe3O4 Nanoparticles Stabilized by a Garcinia mangostana Fruit Peel Extract for Hyperthermia and Anticancer Activities

Abstract: Introduction: Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs) with multiple functionalities are intriguing candidates for various biomedical applications. Materials and Methods: This study introduced a simple and green synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 NPs using a low-cost stabilizer of plant waste extract rich in polyphenols content with a well-known antioxidant property as well as anticancer ability to eliminate colon cancer cells. Herein, Fe 3 O 4 NPs were fabricated via a facile co-precipitation method using the crude extract o… Show more

“…Human HCT116 colorectal cancer (CRC) (ATCC CCL-247) and CCD112 normal colon (ATCC CRL-1541) cell lines were purchased from ATCC (VA, USA) and cultured according to ATCC’s recommendation [ 35 , 36 ]. The cell lines were maintained in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) (Gibco) and 1% penicillin/streptomycin (Gibco) under standard cell culture conditions.…”

“…The presence of agglomeration might be due to van der Waals forces that bind particles together, as well as nanoscale shear forces. Furthermore, the presence of hydroxyl groups in plant extracts may cause agglomeration (Yusefi, et al, 2021).…”

“…However, using smart nanomaterials and advanced devices might decrease worldwide cancer effects. As an unique multifunctional nanomaterials, magnetic nanofluids have been widely examined for cancer therapy [7,8], magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [9,10], MHT [10][11][12], and thermoablation [13], targeted drug delivery [14], bioseparation [15], biosensing [16], cell labeling [17], and targeting and immunoassays [18]. This is due to the advantages of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) including low cost of preparation, high physical and chemical stability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability [19][20][21].…”
