“…It could be due to a higher proportion of lymphocytes with longer telomeres relative to other leucocytes in bat blood. Previous studies have shown that lymphocytes in various bat species either exceed the numbers of neutrophils (Miguel et al., 2019; Schneeberger et al., 2013) or were present in equal quantities to neutrophils and can vary according to season and infection (Liudmila et al., 2017; Schneeberger et al., 2013). While season showed no significant differences across tissues, this is probably due to small sample size and is unlikely to reflect differences that might occur from different infection pressures.…”
