Abstract: RESUMOEste trabalho acompanha a produção e a circulação transatlântica de uma das muitas imagens do Haiti: o Haiti popular, paisagem estético-antropológica amplamente proliferada na metade do século XX. “…I tackle the question of the desire to learn Portuguese by focusing on the actual statements of my friends from the TIX, whereas I draw on established ethnographic descriptions from Amerindian anthropology that intersect with the utterances of my interlocutors to explore issues surrounding space and the body. Methodologically, the article rests on two pillars: on the one hand, long-term ethnographic fieldwork, and on the other a "technique of ethnographic imagination" applied to the Amerindian literature and based on Strathern's idea of "the ethnographic effect" (2014 [1999] apud Goyatá 2019). Whilst I have no pretentions to reconstruct a totalizing representation of reality that might definitively explain the presence of TIX indigenous peoples in the city of Canarana, I do endeavor to tease out the "partial connections" (Strathern 1991) between ethnography and literature that shift our focus from the classical objects of anthropological studies of indigenous urbanization to matters of body, place and perspective.…”
