Harnessing Project-Based Learning to Enhance STEM Students’ Critical Thinking Skills Using Water Treatment Activity

Abstract: Water treatment processes are designed to ensure that any pollutant’s adverse effects on the environment are reduced to the minimum allowable discharge limit. Water-literate individuals ought to effectively and constantly think about novel hydrologic concepts to improve the quality and sufficiency of water. Socio-hydrological issues remain the main source of water pollution and insufficiency in society. Therefore, effective water management and treatment require societal understanding. The complexity of water … Show more

“…In the same year Rizkika et al (2022) developed STEM-based E-LKPD to improve learners' critical thinking skills. By the end of the year, Oyewo et al (2022) harnessed PjBL to improve the critical thinking skills of STEM learners using water treatment activity, this activity involved the development of a novel product using agricultural wastes for efficient water treatment and enhanced STEM students' critical thinking skills.…”

“…Science teachers are expected to educate students more about the environment. For the pre-service teacher level, water treatment activity is also an interesting topic to be explored (Oyewo et al, 2022). Water pollution is still one of the crucial issues in many big cities in developing countries, such as Indonesia (Ferronato & Torretta, 2019;Suwarno et al, 2014;Yu et al, 2015).…”
