“…The fibrous variant of Hasimoto's thyroiditis is a well recognised entity, 6 the major clinical features being a rapid enlargement of a hard or firm and occasionally fixed goitre, together with the presence of neck pressure symptoms or hypothyroidism. These features may be mistaken for malignant thyroid disease and histological differentiation is often required 7 , 8 . There is no predilection for metastatic deposits to occur in abnormal thyroid tissue 9 and the combination of metastatic carcinoma and auto‐immune thyroiditis is most unusual; we are aware of only one other case in the literature 10 and we believe this case to be the first in which the fibrous variant of Hasimoto's thyroiditis has been involved.…”
