“…While those patients undergoing CTI ablation, especially as first-line therapy, may delay the onset of AF, it is clear from study after study that patients with flutter are at risk for developing AF, CTI ablation or not. As such, should anticoagulation be continued in some high-risk patients such as those identified by the hypertension, age ≥75 years, transient ischemic attack or stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure (HATCH) scoring system?8 With some non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants showing a lower risk of bleeding compared with warfarin along with a better lowering of thromboembolic risk reduction, the choice to anticoagulate patients with non-valvular AF may be easier 9. Perhaps, insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs) can play a role allowing for early detection of AF post-CTI ablation.…”
