This work aims to study the appropriate method for extract Betel leaf as crude extracts to prepare as a natural antioxidant in moisturizing hand cream. Betel leaf was treated by 7 methods and the optimized method was selected for preparation of Betel leaf extract. The fresh Betel leaf and dried Betel leaf were used in this study. Betel leaf extracts were analysed for total phenolic content and essential oil as eugenol content. Then Betel leaf extracts were used as the one component for moisturizing hand cream. The lipid oxidation was evaluated by measurement on malondialdehyde content. The results revealed that an extracts solution from dried Betel leaf contained total phenolic content and eugenol content more than fresh Betel leaf. The ethanol extraction method was the optimum method since this method showed the maximum total phenolic content and eugenol content in dried Betel leaf as 5.26 g/100 g and 138.95 mg/100 g, respectively. The moisturizing creams were formulated by using crude Betel leaf extracts as the one composition compare with base cream (no addition of Betel leaf extracts). The moisturizing cream samples were analysed for malondialdehyde. its showed that the cream that contained Betel leaf extract contained malondialdehyde content lower than in cream base. Thus, crude extracts from Betel leaf showed the efficacy to reduce lipid oxidation reaction in moisturizing hand cream.

Gigi tiruan resin akrilik dapat menjadi tempat pengumpulan stain, tar, dan plak dan hal ini akan berpengaruh jelek terhadap kesehatan mulut pemakai gigi tiruan. Salah satu cara menjaga kebersihan rongga mulut pengguna gigi tiruan adalah dengan menggunakan obat kumur dan merendam gigi-tiruan tersebut dengan larutan pembersih/denture cleanser. Larutan obat kumur dan larutan pembersih berbahan dasar dari bahan kimia dengan harga yang relatif mahal, serta mempengaruhi porositas gigi tiruan. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya bahan alternatif yang aman, murah, alami sekaligus memiliki fungsi antimikroba dengan tanpa mempengaruhi tingkat porositas gigi tiruan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kombinasi air rebusan daun sirih dan kayu siwak terhadap porositas lempeng resin akrilik. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental, rancangan post test only with control group design, dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Terpadu Poltekkes Tanjungkarang, Juli-Desember 2015. Analisis data dengan uji One Way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan uji Least Significant Difference. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi air rebusan daun sirih dan kayu siwak tidak mempengaruhi porositas lempeng resin akrilik. Konsentrasi tertinggi dari kombinasi air rebusan daun sirih dan kayu siwak yang tidak berbeda signifikan dengan kontrol negatif (aquades) adalah 75% dengan lama perendaman terpanjang yaitu 59 hari. One way to clean the oral cavity of denture users is to use mouthwash and soak the teeth with a cleaning solution / denture cleanser. Mouthwash solutions and chemical-based cleaning solutions at relatively high prices, and affect the porosity of dentures. Therefore, the need for alternative materials that are safe, cheap, natural as well as having antimicrobial function without affecting the level of porosity of denture. This study was to determine the effect of the combination of boiled water of betel leaves and siwak wood to the porosity of the acrylic resin plate. This study was an experimental study, posttest only design with the control group has been done at the integrated laboratory of Poltekkes Tanjungkarang, July -December 2015. Data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA and continued with Least Significant Difference test. The results showed that the combination of betel leaves and siwak wood does not affect the porosity of the acrylic resin plate. The highest concentration of the combination of betel leaf water and siwak wood that did not differ significantly with negative control (aquades) was 75% with longest immersion period was 59 days. A simple, ultrasensitive and convenient electrochemical method has been developed for quantification of antioxidant eugenol, at multi‐walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) ionic liquid (1‐Butyl 3‐methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate) glassy carbon based sensor. The electrochemical behavior of eugenol at the sensor was studied using square wave voltammetry as a function of concentration of eugenol. The voltammetric studies of eugenol at MWCNT‐IL‐Gel/GC sensor exhibited a well defined anodic peak for its oxidation in Britton‐Robinson buffer at pH 10.5.Under optimized experimental condition the square wave oxidation peak current was linear over concentration range of 250 nM L−1 to 4000 nM L−1 with limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification of 87.6 nM L−1 and 292.2 nM L−1 respectively. The results indicate that the electrode coated with MWCNT‐IL‐Gel possess high sensitivity towards eugenol. Developed MWCNT‐IL‐Gel/GC sensor was successfully employed for the analysis of eugenol in real samples.
