Health Promotion Behavior of Chinese International Students in Korea Including Acculturation Factors: A Structural Equation Model

Abstract: The Chinese students in Korea with higher self-esteem, perceived health status, acculturation level, and lower acculturative stress reported higher health promotion behavior. The findings can be applied to develop health promotion strategies for this population.

“…Applications of Pender's model guide the development of successful theory-based interventions and provided evidence of the effectiveness of several interventions based on this theory. Moreover, HPM is useful in decreasing risk factors of diseases, especially chronic diseases and symptoms, and promote healthy lifestyle [24].…”

“…Several researchers have addressed the hypothesised pathway linking components of the conceptual construct from different theories to predict health behaviours (Becker & Mainman, 1975; Ham, 2006; Kim & Yoo, 2016; Khamkon et al., 2014; Murphy, Vernon, Diamond, & Tiro, 2014; Norouzi, Jommand, & Tahmasebi, 2011; Zhou et al, 2012). However, few investigated the competitive model by the hypothesised testing approach to explain the variation of health behaviours in screening practice using the structural equation model (SEM).…”

“…In this hypothesised model, the concept of intent was added to the attitudinal theoretical framework in which the belief, recent cues to action as subjective norms and intention predict the screening behaviour but intend as a factor between beliefs and behaviours ( Figure 2). “…A partir do momento em que o estudante se encontra adaptado ao meio universitário, ele passa a desenvolver estratégias de defesa para lidar com as dificuldades decorrentes da vida acadêmica como grande quantidade de matéria para estudo e consequente diminuição do tempo de atividades de lazer (Jun, Yang, & Lee, 2018). Dessa forma, o efeito do apoio social aos estudantes torna-se de suma relevância para o processo de adaptação o qual o estudante está vivenciando (Kim & Yoo, 2016).…”
