For ensuring the safe and stable operation of waxy crude oil pipeline transportation, in this research, the molecular dynamics model was established to characterize the deposition and wall sticking behavior of waxy crude oil multiphase system pipeline transportation. The equal density interpolation fitting method was proposed to determine the wall contact angle of simulation results. Through verification, the error between the simulation results and the experimental results measured by Dos Santos et al. (2006) was less than 5%, which showed that the established model was accurate and reliable. Using the established model, the deposition and wall sticking behavior of waxy crude oil nucleated clusters was simulated. It was found that the nucleated clusters would first adhere to the wall surface to form the solidified oil layer. Then, the wax and asphaltene molecules would diffuse to the deposit layer, and the oil molecules in the solidified oil layer reverse diffused to the direction of the oil flow. With the adhering and spreading degree of clusters on the wall surface increasing, the deposit layer gradually aged, and the gelled deposit layer with a higher density and hardness would form. On this basis, the micro influence mechanism of the surface free energy was studied. It was found that the higher the surface free energy, the more hydrophilic the pipeline wall was, and the higher the adhesion degree would be. Moreover, based on the ABF sampling and the potential of mean force calculations, the selective deposition process of waxy crude oil deposited on the sedimentary layer was studied. The micro information on the deposition sites, the binding conformation, and the binding energy of different molecules in clusters deposited on different molecules in sedimentary layer were analyzed. The investigations in this study could provide theoretical support for paraffin removal and control, which could ensure the safe and stable operation of the waxy crude oil production system.

Keeping crude oil within the working temperature range in floating roof tank is the key to ensure safe operation of oil depot. Tubular heating is one of the conventional and extensive methods to heat crude oil. To improve flow and heat transfer performance of crude oil during heating process, a comprehensive numerical research is presented to investigate heat transfer and flow characteristics of crude oil in which heating tube is arranged with and without fins, and the impact of fin length and fin number on temperature field, flow field and heat flux of crude oil was investigated. The results show that by increasing fin length, the average temperature of crude oil increases and inhomogeneity in temperature decreases. The most homogeneous temperature distribution is attained by the tube with 200 mm length fin where the maximum amplitude is 1.9 ºC. The improvement of heating performance with 4 fins is significant from the aspect of temperature distribution and temperature rise of crude oil. Moreover, the amount of heat flux at the tank wall decreases with increasing fin length and fin number, and maximum decrease is 4.39 % for the tube equipped with 150 mm length fin, while other tank boundaries do not have an apparent changing rule.

During periods of sharp demand increase, there is a need for significant expansion in the fundamental requirements for crude oil storage. As demand rapidly escalates, the prerequisites for crude oil storage necessitate substantial expansion. To scientifically and effectively reduce energy waste associated with heating oil, it is essential to study the heating methods and efficiency of crude oil storage tanks. Considering environmental temperature, solar radiation, and the physical properties of the oil, we have proposed a new heating model to elucidate the dynamic heating process of large floating roof storage tanks equipped with coils. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software was used to analyze the impact of the dynamic heating model on the temperature and velocity fields within the floating roof tank, taking into account different initial oil temperatures, oil levels, wind speeds, and types of crude oil during the winter heating process. Additionally, the research suggests the optimal maintenance heating temperature and duration for crude oil storage tanks during the winter season, introducing heating efficiency and inhomogeneity of temperature field as two evaluation metrics to compare the advantages of the dynamic heating method over traditional heating methods. This study provides fresh insights into the coil heating domain in crude oil storage tanks.
