“…14,20 It has been previously proposed that parental occupation is an important risk factor for infection, especially in that it determines family income and living standards in most communities. 15 We did not demonstrate a significant link between parental occupation being defined as manual and the risk of childhood H. pylori infection. Likewise we failed to demonstrate that the presence of household overcrowding 10,21 and suggests that overcrowding acts as a surrogate marker for bed or bedroom sharing, which was not assessed in previous publications.…”

“…6,17,18 The precise mechanism of spread has been the focus of numerous publications, the results of which have been inconclusive. 15,19 Close personal contact does appears to be a key factor, given that increasing household density is associated with greater incidence of infection. 10 We have chosen bed sharing as a marker of close personal contact, where there is a high possibility of oro-oral, gastro-oral or fecal-oral transmission through inadvertent spread of infected saliva, vomitus or poor personal hygiene.…”

“…There are only a limited number of studies on internal country variation in the prevalence of H. pylori in the transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe. However, the published results are consistent in that they also demonstrate the effects of parental socioeconomic status on H. pylori infection in children and adolescents [23–27].…”

“…Several population‐based studies have been performed in both adult and pediatric population in Europe [9–12]. However, there is inconclusive data regarding prevalence and risk factors of H. pylori among children in the Czech Republic, whose population is almost uniformly of Caucasian origin, ranging from 7.5 to 42%[13–15], as well as in other Central and East European countries [16,17]. Recently, a Czech population based study reported H. pylori positivity rate of 41.7% among Czech children who are 5 years old and older and adults [14].…”
