Hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity of standardized herbal extracts

Abstract: Background:Phyllanthus emblica, Camellia sinensis, Mangifera indica, Punica granatum, and Acacia catechu have been shown to possess widespread pharmacological application against multitude of diseases namely cancer, diabetes, liver disorders, and oxidative stress. Objective:We evaluated the hepatoprotective activity of the standardized herbal extracts against tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BH) induced toxicity and their mechanism of hepatoprotective action in human hepatocarcinoma cells (HepG2 cell line).Materials… Show more

“…However, due to consumption of alcohol, exposure of environmental toxin, over drugs consumption lead the liver in various ailments like hepatitis, cirrhosis, etc. [ 5 6 ] Carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ) is a widely used hepatotoxic chemical to induce the liver and tissue damage in laboratory animal experiment. [ 7 8 ] The main principle of CCl 4 − induced liver damage is the lipid peroxidation and decreases the antioxidant enzyme system by producing free radicals.…”
