Hepatoprotective effects of blue honeysuckle on CCl4‐induced acute liver damaged mice

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of blue honeysuckle (BH) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)‐induced acute hepatic damage in mice. The experiment used a total of 60 ICR mice, which were divided into six groups. Except for the intact control groups, all groups received a single intraperitoneal injection of CCl4 after a 7 day pre‐treatment period with distilled water, BH extracts, or silymarin. Twenty‐four hours after the CCl4 injection, the following observations, representat… Show more

“…This study demonstrates the hepatoprotective effects of TLR9 antagonist ODN 2088 against CCl 4 -induced acute liver damage in mice. A CCl 4 solvent is commonly used as a potent inducer of acute liver injury in animal experiments (Lee et al, 2019;Bak et al, 2016). CCl 4 intoxication is beneficial for studying the hepatoprotective actions of potent therapeutic agents (Huang et al, 2012).…”

“…Acute liver injury can develop when the liver is exposed to various hepatotoxic factors such as toxic chemicals, pathogen infections and drugs. It is strongly associated with development of oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver tissue (Lee et al, 2019). Continuous exposure to hepatotoxic factors will induce the development of liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) (Lee et al, 2019).…”

“…Moreover, these obtained outcomes are similar to the result of a past examination led on comparable topics. CCl 4 has the ability to prompt the generation of reactive oxygen‐free radicals, for example, H 2 O 2 , superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals . These free radicals can make harm to numerous essential components of the cell, for example, the DNA, cell proteins, lipids, finally leading to the apoptotic occurrence.…”

With a high age of ROS, the balancing antioxidant defense mechanisms get enacted to kill these free radicals.…”
