Herbal drug incorporated antibacterial nanofibrous mat fabricated by electrospinning: An excellent matrix for wound dressings

Abstract: Nano-components and nano-systems for health care and medical applications are the focus of many research projects worldwide. Nanofibrous membranes are highly soft materials with high surface-to-volume ratios, and therefore can serve as excellent carriers for therapeutic agents that are antibacterial or accelerate wound healing. PCL/PVP Nanofiber mat containing chloroform: methanol (4:1) crude bark extract of Tecomella undulata, a medicinal plant widely known for its traditional medical applications including i… Show more

“…The ester COO vibrations occur at 1163 and 1240 cm -1 . The O-C vibrations occur at the peak of 1107, 1047 and 961 cm -1 , with the CH 2 vibration appearing at 732 cm -1 (Suganya et al 2011). The infrared spectrum of PCL nanofibers containing nHA showed almost the same results at all characteristic peaks.…”

“…To supplement and enhance the general wound dressing functions several different strategies have been developed, namely those involving the incorporation of bioactive compounds (e.g. growth factors, peptides, synthetic drugs and/or naturally based compounds/extracts) and of stem cells into dressing matrices in order to prepare medicated dressings [89][90][91][92].…”

“…The intense peak at 1722 cm -1 refers to stretching of the carbonyl groups (-C=O), while peaks at 1187 and 1243 cm -1 are related to vibrations of ester groups. The peak at 1295 cm -1 corresponds to stretching of C-O and C-C bonds and the peak at1369 cm -1 is related to vibrations of -CH2 groups (Khatiwala et al, 2008;Suganya et al, 2011;Martínez-Abad et al, 2013).…”
