“…Therefore, this study, taking the method of gradual elimination, was to evaluate the effective antithyroiditis constituents in Haizao Yuhu Decoction (MHYD) and the potential interactions of these constituents. By combining the reported literatures (Sa et al, 2007;Kang et al, 2008) and the results mentioned above, our findings that effects of MHYD in EAT rats were significantly higher than those of DL-S and DL-G suggested that S. fusiforme and Radix Glycyrrhiza in the formulation of MHYD could be considered responsible for the decrease of serum TgAb, TPOAb, T3 and T4 levels due to the immunomodulatory effects.…”

“…The previous reports had shown that Radix Glycyrrhiza (RG), which contains glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhetic acid, glabridin, liquiritin and licochalcone, possesses antioxidant (Fukai et al, 2003), anti-inflammatory (Shin et al, 2008), antitussive (Kamei et al, 2003;Kamei et al, 2005), cyto-protective (Zhan and Yang, 2006;Yu et al, 2008) and immunomodulatory effects (Sun and Hang-Jun Pan, 2006;Kang et al, 2008). It was also reported that Radix Glycyrrhiza was part of a mixture, Gamgungtang, that down-regulates autoimmunity through induction of TH2 cytokine production by lymphocytes in experimental thyroiditis model (Sa et al, 2007). On the other hand, S. fusiforme (SF) exhibit obvious antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities .…”

“…TgAA and anti‐T4 antibody titers were decreased as a result of the CTLA4Ig‐induced inhibition of the CD4+ T‐cell‐mediated autoreaction in EAT, a finding that may be related to the downregulation of systemic Th1 cytokines. There are some studies reporting on Th1/Th2 balance in EAT 32–35. For example, Zhang et al 34 reported that the direct injection of DNA expression vectors encoding IL‐10 into thyroid significantly inhibited development of lymphocytic infiltration of thyroid of autoimmune thyroiditis mice, and alleviated the progression of this disease.…”
