This work highlights the importance of heritage education as a vehicle for citizen education. We present an analysis of concepts of heritage, citizenship, and territory held by third-year social science students. The results are obtained from statistical analysis of a questionnaire given before and after a didactic intervention and the application of a table of categories drawn up based on heritage education in terms of the parameters we consider desirable, from a holistic, socio-critical, motivating, and participatory perspective. The outcomes show the success of the intervention, with the students presenting better reflective and critical knowledge of their environment, showing appreciation, respect, protection, and dissemination of heritage as a symbol of identity and favoring the commitment to sustainable actions.

ÖzOkullarla sınırlı olmayan eğitimin okul dışı ortamlarda da desteklenmesi gerekmektedir. Günümüzde temel eğitim anlayışının değişmesiyle birlikte okullarda öğrencilere, eleştirel düşünme, yaratıcılık, aktif öğrenme ve sorumlu yurttaş olma kazandırılmaya çalışılmaktadır. Temel işlevlernin yanı sıra, müzeler eğitim işlevini de yürütmektedirler. Müzeler, koleksiyonları, sergileri, olanakları ve sundukları eğitim programları ile çocuklara aktif öğrenme için gerekli ortamı sağlamaktadırlar. Son yıllarda farklı uygarlıkların izlerini taşıyan kültürel mirasın korunması, ilköğretim programları içinde yer alan bir öğrenme alanıdır. Kültürel mirasın korunması çabalarında ortaya çıkan temel sorunlardan biri, bu konudaki toplumsal bilincin yetersizliğidir. Kültürel mirasın neden önemli olduğu ve korunması gerektiği konusunda yapılacak çalışmalar, farkındalığın artmasında şüphesiz katkı koyacaktır. Bu doğrultuda Milli Eğitim Sistemimizde de "Kültürel Miras" kavramı eğitim programı kapsamına alınmıştır. Yaşadığımız yapılı çevre, somut kültürel miras açısından çok zengin örneklere sahiptir. Sadece anıtsal yapılar değil, sivil mimarlık örnekleri, endüstriyel yapılar, 20.yy yapıları bu zenginliğin bir parçasıdırlar. Ülkemizde bazı eski endüstriyel yapıların yenilenerek müzeye dönüştürülmesi, kültürel mirasın korunması adına önemli bir kazanımdır. Üretim süreçlerini tamamlayan bu yapılar, geçmiş yaşam kültürümüze yönelik belge niteliği taşımanın yanı sıra, geçmiş teknolojilerin canlı örnekleridir. Bu çalışmada kültürel miras örneği olan Santra-lİstanbul Enerji Müzesinin geçmişteki ve bugünkü kullanımları aktarılmakta, günümüzde müze olarak kullanılan bu yapının çocuklar tarafından anlaşılmasına ve keşfedilmesine yönelik olarak önerilen "Bina Keşfi" etkinlik föyü ele alınmaktadır. In recent years, with the change of the basic education approach critical thinking, creativity, active learning and conscious of being responsible citizens notions are trying to acquire. Beside the basic function of museums, they carry out the education function. They provide proper environment to active learning with their collection, facilities and education programs for children. In recent years, protection of cultural heritage is a new learning area in primary education programs. One of the main problems about protection of cultural heritage is lack of consciousness in society. Studies about why cultural heritage is important and why it should be protected will contribute to increase awareness. AkhirPekan@MuseumNasional or Weekend at Museum Nasional is a Sunday family 15-20-minute theatre program organized by a museum consultancy, @Museum, in collaboration with Teater Koma for Indonesia's National Museum. As a follow-up research, it zooms in on the decision-making process which leads to family participation in this cultural heritage appreciation program. Semistructured interviews in this preliminary qualitative research to families attending the program show that aspiration, prior experience and the roles of mothers contributes to the process. It is hoped that this writing would provide feedbacks to other similar initiatives which promote the appreciation of cultural heritage.
