Hernia

Abstract: Laparoscopic herniorrhaphy is recommended for inguinal hernia. Strength of recommendation: B 1-1 Is laparoscopic herniorrhaphy expected to provide earlier recovery than open herniorrhaphy ? Although laparoscopic herniorrhaphy requires more surgical time than open herniorrhaphy (both the mesh-free and mesh methods), the surgery provides milder postoperative pain, nerve damage, and chronic pain as well as earlier recovery. bs_bs_banner Asian J Endosc Surg ISSN 1758-5902 Asian J Endosc Surg 8 (2015) 382-389

“…Compared with TEP, TAPP can cause port-site hernia [ 3 , 18 ]. Systematic reviews [ 19 , 20 ] revealed that the frequency of port-site hernia was 0%–5.2%, and port-site hernia occurred with an incidence of 96% with a 10- or 12-mm trocar and was mostly located in the umbilical region (82%).…”

“…The following three laparoscopic herniorrhaphy techniques have been reported: intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM), transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP), and totally extraperitoneal (TEP) [ 2 ]. Currently, IPOM repair has become largely unpopular, and it is concluded that surgical outcomes of TEP and TAPP repairs are probably similar, and the surgeon’s experience is the most important factor when selecting a surgical method [ 3 ].…”

“…There were also no traces of the operation having reached around the external iliac artery and vein on the dorsal side of bilateral inguinal region, and TAPP was therefore successfully completed. During inguinal hernia surgery in patients with a history of lower abdominal surgery, it is considered necessary to search for an approach path and repair layers in the abdominal wall layer that the previous operation did not reach.…”

“…6 In Japan, surgical inguinal hernia repair is performed mainly by an open approach (inguinal incision) 7,8 or laparoscopic approach. 9,10 We recently began performing robotic transabdominal preperitoneal repair (R-TAPP) as an alternative for patients with inguinal hernia.…”
