Heterogeneous Photodecolorization of Methyl Green Catalyzed by Fe(II)-o-Phenanthroline/Zeolite Y Nanocluster

Abstract: The potential of Fe(II)-orthophenatrolin, as doped with synthetic zeolite Y nanocluster (Na-Y) via complexation process, after wet impregnation of parent zeolite with FeSO 4 aqueous solution, was studied as a photocatalyst in decolorization of Methyl Green (MG) under UV irradiation. The characterization of the synthesized zeolite nanocluster and the prepared catalyst was studied using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermal analysis, and SEM methods. The dye photodecolorization p… Show more

“…More light is absorbed by molecules of dye and the excitation of photocatalyst particles by photons will be reduced. ese results are in good accordance with the literature [34,37,39,40]. is is also simplied in Table 1 where the degradation rate constant ( , min dye.…”

“…Similarly, an increase in peaks intensity specific to Al-O-H bonds (peaks 3640 and 3694) was remarked. ese modifications were also observed in X-ray diffraction diagrams [6,64].…”

“…where Qe is the quantity of the adsorbate at equilibrium (mg•g − 1 ); t is the contact time (min); k L is the Lagergren constant, adsorption rate constant for the first order (min − 1 ); and k B is the Blanchard constant, adsorption rate constant for the pseudo-second order (g•mol − 1 •min − 1 ). Equations (4) and (5) were converted to the linear form given in equations (6) and 7, respectively, for pseudo-first and pseudo-second orders. Linear plots are illustrated in Figure 14.…”

“…These results confirm incorporation of Fe ions into zeolite channels. In addition, the brown color after ion exchange with Fe ions is the primary evidence for incorporation of Fe into the zeolite framework [47]. The Fe/NaY zeolite was analyzed by X-ray diffraction to compare its crystalline state with the initial NaY zeolite.…”
