High activity of Ag-doped Cd0.1Zn0.9S photocatalyst prepared by the hydrothermal method for hydrogen production under visible-light irradiation

Abstract: Summary Background: The hydrothermal method was used as a new approach to prepare a series of Ag-doped Cd0.1Zn0.9S photocatalysts. The effect of Ag doping on the properties and photocatalytic activity of Cd0.1Zn0.9S was studied for the hydrogen production from water reduction under visible light irradiation. Results: Compared to the series prepared by the co-precipitation method, samples prepared by the hydrothermal method performed with a better photocatalytic activity. The sample with the optimum amount of A… Show more

“…In addition to a solid solution, CdS can mix with other metal sulfides in order to increase hydrogen production under visible light irradiation. 105,[117][118][119] For instance, TiS 2 and TaS 2 are both semiconductors with small band gaps less than 1 eV. A nano-layer combination of one of these two semiconductors with nanoparticles of CdS resulted in highly efficient photocatalysts for H 2 evolution from an aqueous solution of benzyl alcohol.…”

“…However, most of them are synthesized by SSR, which might not be the optimized approach. There are several homogeneous methods to prepare suldes which lead to higher performance, [47][48][49][50] however these methods are usually limited to simple suldes such as CdS and ZnS. Few homogeneous methods have been reported for the synthesis of complex suldes.…”

“…The small shifting of less than 0.1°suggesting that one-pot synthesis allows Ag to be doped into TiO 2 lattice with minimal crystal distortion. Similar finding was also reported in [12]. The crystallite size of the TiO 2 was estimated based on Scherrer's equation.…”

“…Distinctive diffraction peak for MWCNT was not assigned to any of the peaks in the XRD patterns due to the close diffraction peaks of MWCNTs and anatase TiO 2 (1 0 1), i.e., 25.2°a nd 26.0°, respectively [4,11]. In addition, no significant diffraction peaks of Ag were noticeable, which is a result of the small Ag content and highly dispersion of Ag dopants over the MWCNT@TiO 2 core-shell nanocomposites [12].…”
