High-current hollow-cathode source as a radiant intensity standard in the 40–125-nm wavelength range

Abstract: The radiant intensity of VUV emission lines of a high-current hollow-cathode source has been determined for the 40-125-nm spectral range. The source is operated at a constant current of 1 A with an aluminum cathode. Different rare gases are alternatively used as the buffer gas at pressures of ~100 Pa. The radiant intensity has been determined by comparison with the calculable spectral radiant flux of the electron storage ring BESSY. Radiant intensities of the emission lines are in the 7-1400-µW/sr range. The l… Show more

“…For this reason, the absolute intensity calibration was performed in the laboratory using emission lines from the hollow cathode lamp, which is an absolutely calibrated source by comparing with the incident photon number from the electron storage ring BESSY in Berlin. 6,7 For application of the calibrated prototype ITER VUV spectrometer, it was installed at KSTAR, and impurity lines were measured for two campaign periods (2012)(2013). From the measured spectra and the calibration curve, the line a) Contributed paper, published as part of the Proceedings of the 20th…”

“…3 and no. 4 channels, a DC high -6 -current hollow cathode discharge 11,12 is used. This VUV light source has been calibrated absolutely as a secondary standard against synchrotron radiation and therefore it can be used for both wavelength calibration and intensity calibration 11,12 .…”

“…First, an absolute calibration will be performed, based on the tabulated intensities of the DC hollow cathode discharge 11,12 as well as on branching ratio data. Second, a full remote control system (SIMATIC) will be implemented, including the operation of the vacuum system, detectors, stepper motor control for entrance slits and filters as well as the temperature stabilization for the spectrometer ground plates.…”
