“…Acute high-intensity interval exercise may initially be uncomfortable and result in feelings of dissatisfaction; however, as one continues to perform interval training, the improvement in physical fitness may begin to influence feelings of enjoyment. This is evident by the increase in PACES scores across a 12-week HIIT program compared to MICT among overweight young women [ 27 ]. The null findings in the current study may be due to both the implementation of moderate-intensity interval exercise and allowing sedentary adults to self-select their own exercise intensity (under guidance of RPE).…”

“…The sample size was calculated using G*power software (G*power 3.1.9.4, University of Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf, Germany): α error prob = 0.05; power, (1−β err prob) = 0.95; and effect size f = 0.25 (medium). To establish the effect size, we referred to another study that administered 12 weeks of training [ 20 , 21 ]. The calculation results in the total sample size = 54, the critical F = 4.026, and denominator df = 52.0.…”

“…Finally, one aspect no less important in the health benefits of high-intensity exercise is adherence to training. In this regard, it has recently been pointed out that long high-intensity interval exercise (4-min effort at 90% V̇O 2peak ), is an enjoyable and pleasant long-term exercise in overweight young women 119 . Thus, with the evidence provided we suggest the prescription of at least 2 minutes of moderate or high-intensity interval type exercises for improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness and health in the general and diseased population.…”
