“…In this study, optimal andrographolide supplementation downregulated the mRNA expression levels of TLR-3, TLR-7 and TLR-8 in the intestine of M. albus . Previous studies have demonstrated that the activation of the TLR signaling pathway leads to increased proinflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1β) and decreased anti-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-10) [ 64 ]. Therefore, this study indicated that the downregulation of proinflammatory cytokines by andrographolide might occur via suppression of the TLR pathway in the intestine.…”

“…AST and ALT are non‐serum activity enzymes primarily found in the liver, kidney, heart and other organs, and the increase in serum AST and ALT activity might be associated with liver damage or dysfunction (Li et al, ; Tan et al, ). In the present study, the activity of these two enzymes in serum had a decreased trend with increasing dietary Nano‐Se, suggesting that dietary Nano‐Se played a protective role in liver and other tissue organs of grass carp, and this result is consistent with another previous study on grass carp (Liu et al, ).…”

“…In recent years, many studies have explored the effects of complete or partial replacement of FO with VOs in freshwater and marine fish (NRC, 2011). While partial replacement of FO with VOs does not affect growth performance (Fountoulaki et al., 2009; Qiu et al., 2017; Trushenski et al., 2011), total replacement of dietary FO with VOs may significantly impact on growth and feeding efficiency, leading to growth retardation (Jin et al., 2017; Li, Ji, et al, 2019). Total replacement of FO with VOs decreases non‐specific immunity of fish (Montero et al., 2003), including reducing their antioxidant capacity and inducing inflammatory responses (Tan, Dong, Xu, Mai, & Ai, 2017), further affecting membrane fluidity and eicosanoid pathways (Calder, 2015).…”

“…The antioxidant system is an important non‐specific immune system in fish; it comprises superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px), which are the main antioxidant enzymes involved in scavenging oxygen free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) (Locatelli et al., 2003; Martínez‐Álvarez, Morales, & Sanz, 2005). Replacement of 100% of FO with VOs significantly decreases plasma CAT activity in the large yellow croaker ( Larmichthys crocea ) (Li et al, 2019) and SOD activity in the Japanese sea bass ( Lateolabrax japonicus ) (Xu et al., 2015), respectively. Furthermore, several studies have reported that VOs can cause overexpression of pro‐inflammatory cytokine genes and an inflammatory response in the gilthead seabream ( Sparus aurata ) (Montero et al., 2010) and Senegalese sole ( Solea senegalensis ) (Montero et al., 2015).…”
