High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of multi-mycotoxin in cereals and bean foodstuffs using interference-removal solid-phase extraction combined with optimized dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction

Abstract: A novel pre-treatment was proposed for the simultaneous determination of aflatoxins, ochratoxin A and zearalenone in foodstuffs using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. The analytical procedure was based on a first step using a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe based extraction procedure, followed by salting out and purification with a C solid-phase extraction column as interference removal clean-up. Subsequently, collected supernatant was subjected to dispersive … Show more

“…To date, various analytical methods, including chromatography, genetic analysis for toxigenic fungus, and enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) have been extensively used for the detection of mycotoxins . Chromatography methods include high performance liquid chromatography, liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (LC‐MS), and gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS) . In GC‐MS, the derivatization of liquid sample is needed before analysis.…”

“…In the case of food and feed samples, clean-up steps are usually needed in order to reduce the matrix effect, especially in the case of liquid chromatography analyses. Solid phase extraction (SPE) and dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE) are the most used as described in literature [19,[21][22][23].…”

“…Among them, immunoaffinity column is the most frequently used in the practical application, which used a column filled with immobilized antibody against the AFB1. Although it provides high selectivity and sensitivity for AFB1 determination, they also have some disadvantages, such as limited storage time, not recyclable, normally costly, time‐consuming elution of the retained analytes [23]. Hence, developing a new sample preparation technique and clean‐up materials that can realize the automated procedures play vital part in the determination of trace AFB1.…”
