High-resolution nuclear-magnetic-resonance spectra of hydrocarbon groupings - V.ABCXspectra of vinyl fluoride and 3-methylbut-l-ene

Abstract: Some general properties of ABCX -type spectra are discussed. It is shown that it is possible to deduce from such spectra the relative signs of all inter-nuclear coupling constants. Analyses are presented of the hydrogen (proton) spectra from the vinyl groups of vinyl fluoride and 3-methylbut-l-ene, and of the fluorine spectrum of the former molecule. It is shown that all HF coupling constants in vinyl fluoride are of the same sign as the cis and trans… Show more

“…Later papers (16,17,28,29) looked at the IR spectra of ethylenediamine complexes of transition metals, for example (C 2 H 4 )PtCl 2 NH 2 .CH 2 .CH 2 .NH 2 PtCl 2 (C 2 H 4 ), where again a complete vibrational assignment was obtained, helped by the substitution of NH 2 groups by ND 2 . Many compounds containing two or more transition metals have bridges of hydrogen atoms.…”
