High-Resolution Numerical Simulation of Respiration-Induced Dynamic B0 Shift in the Head in High-Field MRI

Abstract: To demonstrate the high-resolution numerical simulation of the respirationinduced dynamic B 0 shift in the head using generalized susceptibility voxel convolution (gSVC). Materials and Methods: Previous dynamic B 0 simulation research has been limited to low-resolution numerical models due to the large computational demands of conventional Fourier-based B 0 calculation methods. Here, we show that a recentlyproposed gSVC method can simulate dynamic B 0 maps from a realistic breathing human body model with high … Show more

“…In reception mode, the magnetic field changes are picked up by the RF coils and an electric current is induced (111). We also discussed the importance of using EM simulation software to design RF coils to analyze the transmitted and received B 1 -field, the electric field, SAR, and the S/ N. EM simulation tools (115) are important for optimizing the performance of RF coils and test them in the presence of any type of material, such as uniform phantoms, human models, and even animal models. Datasets with corresponding electrical properties of different materials and tissues are available for a large range of frequencies, which makes them a useful tool for accurate EM simulations, especially for SAR evaluation.…”

“…Although most of the studies are performed by using the numerical simulations, lots of numerical techniques and measurement methods are introduced to improve the reliability of the results. The calculated results are considerably dependent on the voxel size (84), indicating that assignment of proper grid size is the key factor for the numerical simulation. Instead of the simulation, the temperature can be measured wirelessly by MR thermometry.…”

“…If the source (target) grid size is NS (NT) in any dimension, the method operates on a grid with size NS+NT1 in the same dimension. This can save significant memory for separated source and target regions, as in respiration‐induced B 0 change in the brain 12 …”
